Grille No. 13 celebrates five years with ribbon cutting at new location

-

Grille No. 13 celebrated its upcoming fifth anniversary on Wednesday, Nov. 8, with a Charles County Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony at its new location, according to a press release.

Owner Katie Pierce is a former teacher at La Plata High School. She initially started off as a cake baker by launching Sugar Lips Cakery. Pierce’s vision of opening a bakery evolved into opening a full-service restaurant and bar. She opened for business April 2013 at her previous location on St. Patrick’s Drive, according to the release.

When Mimi’s Cafe closed in Waldorf Marketplace a couple of years ago, Pierce was curious about the space and had no real intentions of relocating, according to the release. Once she met with the leasing agent and saw the inside, Pierce’s curiosity changed into interest. She immediately saw the potential Grille No. 13 had in the space as the restaurant hosts various private events and specialty nights ranging from trivia nights to dance parties, according to the release.

Saturday, Sept. 9, Grille No. 13 opened at the Waldorf Marketplace location. “It was a huge undertaking, but I moved forward in faith and things just kind of fell into place. And now here we are,” Pierce said in the release.

Grille No. 13’s new location is 3016 Waldorf Marketplace, next to America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses, in the former Mimi’s Cafe location. The restaurant is open every day at 11 a.m. and closes 2 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and midnight Sunday through Wednesday, according to the release.
