Holiday toy drive benefits families in Southern Maryland

Thirteen partners help to give back to a local out-of-school program for youth and families this Christmas

This holiday season, KidsSTREAM Inc. held a toy give away event for the First Annual KidsSTREAM Adopt a Family for Christmas at the Farrell Professional Building in Waldorf.

During this event, children and their parents were invited to receive snacks, take pictures with Santa, and sing Christmas songs together. Six families were personally invited to receive presents that were donated by KidsSTREAM families, community organizations like The Arnold’s House, and partners. In all, 18 children ranging in ages from newborn to high school were given toys, games, and gift cards.

“We’re so happy to help put a smile on a child’s face this holiday season,” Vernon Myers II, executive director and co-founder for KidsSTREAM Inc., said in a news release. “I remember when someone took the time to give me toys for Christmas when I was a child. When we discovered our parents or guardians were worrying about how they will provide a wonderful Christmas for their children, we had to step up and let them know, ‘We are here to help you.’”

“Every time a partner brought an item to our camp, I started to cry,” Anya Myers, administrator and co-founder for KidsSTREAM Inc., said in a news release. “When I announce to our partners about KidsSTREAM adopting families for Christmas, I did not expect an immediate response within 24 hours. The gifts that our families receive today is the result of the outpour, love, and dedications from our partners. We are forever grateful for their support and we look forward to doing this again next year.”
