A 32-year-old Nanjemoy man was charged with assault after he allegedly stabbed a man in the arm using a razor blade outside his home.

Omar Jamal Brooks was charged with first and second-degree assault.

On Feb. 26 at about 6:30 p.m., a Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the 8800 block of Oliver Place in Nanjemoy for a reported stabbing.

On scene, the officer spoke with the victim, who lives at the residence with Brooks. He told the officer that Brooks stabbed him in the arm and allowed the officer to see the stab wound to his upper left arm, according to charging documents.

The victim said that he noticed a sports drink that he bought for himself was empty, and he confronted Brooks about it and they started yelling at each other. They both went outside and as the victim was exiting the home, Brooks allegedly stabbed him with a razor blade knife in his left arm. The victim told police that he started running away from Brooks when Brooks started chasing him. He said that he threw rocks and empty bottles at Brooks to attempt him to stop chasing him, according to charging documents.

Brooks told the police that he was making a meal in the kitchen when the victim got angry at him. Brooks told the victim to meet him outside the home, where they began to fight, according to Brooks, and he swung at the victim but missed him. Brooks said he did not know how the victim was stabbed, according to charging documents.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Brooks was arrested and transported to the Charles County Detention Center. His bail was set at $25,000 by a District Court judge on Feb. 28, according to court records.

In 2008, Brooks was sentenced to two years incarceration for second-degree arson. In 2013, he was sentenced 18 months incarceration for reckless endangerment. In 2014, he was sentenced to a year incarceration for conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, according to court records.
