Two La Plata men were arrested and charged after members of the La Plata Police Department were investigating several thefts in two town neighborhoods.

Marvin Lewis Dyson and Cody Xavier Brown, both 18 of La Plata, were charged with three counts of burglary, seven counts of theft, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and several other related charges.

On June 13, around 3:45 p.m., La Plata Police Department officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Anne Arundel Avenue in La Plata for the report of a burglary.

The homeowner advised an officer that unknown individuals broke into his home between 5 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. that day and stole two guns, a laptop, collector’s coins, ammunition and other items, valued at about $9,300, according to charging documents.

The La Plata Police Department was also notified that an SUV had been stolen during the same time frame in the 100 block of Mallard Lane in La Plata.

The owner of the vehicle told police that the SUV was stolen from the front of his home.

Officers went around the La Plata area asking if anyone had seen the stolen SUV and were able to view surveillance footage of two suspects in the SUV at a convenience store in the town.

The two suspects were identified as Brown and Dyson. Officers then went to Brown’s home, where they located both defendants and the alleged stolen property of the man residing on Anne Arundel Avenue, as well as the key fob to the stolen SUV, according to charging documents.

Both Brown and Dyson were arrested and transported to the Charles County Detention Center, where their bonds were set at $25,000, according to court records.
