Westlake 27, Great Mills 6

The visiting Wolverines won for the second straight week in defeating the Hornets on Friday night.

Great Mills struck first getting a touchdown when Martrel Mason returned an intercepti­on for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, but the Hornets led 6-0.

Westlake then recovered a Great Mills fumble and Curtonio Marshall ran 1 yard into the end zone for the Wolverines’ first score of the game. The kick failed, leaving the game tied at 6.

Next, Westlake running back Andre Jackson Jr. had an 81-yard touchdown run to his team in the lead at 12-6.

In the second quarter, Wolverines quarterbac­k Jalon Spencer had a 12yard touchdown run that made the score 19-6 after a Ryan Lloyd extra point.

Marshall and Spencer connected for a long touchdown later in the quarter. This time the 2-point conversion was good giving Westlake a 27-6 lead.

There were no points scored in the third and fourth quarters.

The Wolverines (3-2 overall) will be at Lackey at 7 p.m. Friday night. The Chargers defeated La Plata in Week 5, 41-6.

The Hornets (0-5) will host Chopticon at 6 p.m. Friday. The Braves defeated Leonardtow­n in Week 5, 34-0.

The visiting Chargers rebounded from the Week 4 loss to Calvert in defeating the Warriors in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest on Friday evening.

After a scoreless first quarter, senior Jayson Wilmer put Lackey (3-2, 1-1 SMAC Chesapeake) on the board early in the second with a touchdown. Roughly 3 1/2 minutes later, junior Jordan Bryant scored on a 68-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and the Chargers would go to halftime up 14-0.

Lackey extended its lead 82 seconds into the second half when senior quarterbac­k Robert “Boogie” Middleton ran 54 yards for a touchdown. Later in the period, Wilmer scored his second touchdown of the night, from 3 yards out, and the lead was 29-0 after Middleton ran in the 2-point conversion.

La Plata (1-4, 0-2) got on the board with a touchdown midway through the fourth to break up the shutout.

Lackey answered with two Bryant touchdowns in the final 2:12 of the game, the first a 25-yard run and the second from 39 yards out that ended the game.

The Chargers will host Westlake at 7 p.m. Friday. The Wolverines defeated Great Mills in Week 5, 27-6. La Plata is at Patuxent at 7 p.m. Friday. The Panthers shut out McDonough in Week 5, 36-0.

The Panthers picked up their first win of the 2018 season by shutting out the visiting Rams in a SMAC Chesapeake Division contest on Friday evening.

Patuxent (1-4, 1-0 SMAC Chesapeake) led 13-0 in the second quarter and extended the lead to 29-0 in the third before adding one final touchdown to end the scoring later.

McDonough (1-4, 0-2) lost for the second straight week after picking up its first win of the season in Week 3.

The Panthers will host La Plata at 7 p.m. Friday. The Warriors fell to Lackey in Week 5, 41-6.

The Rams will take on Calvert at 7 p.m. Friday in a contest that is scheduled to be played at Thomas Stone High School. The Cavaliers defeated Stone in Week 5, 48-20.
