17-year-old Thomas Stone student found shot to death
Police working to identify suspect, motive
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is working on an investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting death of a Waldorf teenager Wednesday evening.
At about 7:55 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in the 11200 block of Wildmeadows Street in Waldorf. Upon arrival, deputies found Elisha Amon Cole, 17, dead from a gunshot wound.
Cole was an active student at Thomas Stone High School, participating in the school’s track and football teams and the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program within his four years at Thomas Stone, school officials stated. AVID is a program that tracks students through high school who are aspiring to go to college to pursue an advanced degree.
According to peers, Cole was interested in pursuing a career in cyber security or investigation and considered joining the military as well.
“Elisha was the type of person that set up his academic career at Thomas Stone so he could have options,” Andre Kenan, Elisha’s former AVID-1 instructor, said. “He wanted to go to college and would have excelled there or wherever he would have went.”
Cole respected those he came in contact with
and was beloved by everyone, including faculty and staff.
“Elisha was a standout student. This is a sad day for Thomas Stone because we have lost a very extraordinary young man,” Kenan said.
