The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland is holding a full council meeting — cash bar at 6 p.m., a 6:30 p.m. dinner and 7 p.m. business meeting — at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center, 3090 Crain Highway, Waldorf. The cost of the dinner is $25. The keynote speaker will be Benjamin Grumbles, Maryland’s secretary of the environment. Western Charles Democratic Club will meet at Sartiks Restaurant located at Route 225 and Marshall Corner Road in La Plata at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour followed by an October Fest buffet at 7 p.m. for a cost of $15 per person. The Charles County Branch of the NAACP is hosting a State Senator and Delegate Candidate Forum from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Historic Willing Helpers Society, 1000 Washington Ave., La Plata. The Maryland Department of Planning is holding a second outreach meeting for the new state development plan, A Better Maryland, at 7 p.m., at the Waldorf Cultural Center, 109 Post Office Road, Waldorf. La Plata Town Council Business Meeting will be 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne St., La Plata.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

Alliance for Rapid Transit (SMART) will host a “Rally for Light Rail: Putting Maryland’s Transportation Priorities Back On Track” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Waldorf, 10385 O’Donnell Place (next to the Waldorf West Librar y). Indian Head Town Council Work Session will be 3:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 4195 Indian Head Highway, Indian Head.
