Student held in alleged school robbery, assault
An 18-year-old student at the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center was arrested May 30 for an alleged assault and robbery that took place at the school, according to charging documents.
The documents state that officers responded to the school around 11:30 a.m. for a report that a student “had been jumped in the bathroom and had a dislocated shoulder.” The victim told officers that the defendant, Jadiss Bruce Allen Adney, and another juvenile co-defendant followed him into a bathroom, where both grabbed him and took $100 from him. The victim fought back, he told officers, at which point “one grabbed his right arm, and pulled it back, causing him to lose feeling in his arm.”
When officers went to place Adney under arrest, the report says, “the defendant was continuously jerking away from our grasp, swinging his elbows in our direction and trying to go back into the school.” While resisting, the report says, Adney allegedly hit an officer, bending his thumb backward “possibly causing dislocation.”
In connection to this case, Adney was taken to the Charles County Detention Center and charged with resisting arrest, disturbing school operations, disorderly conduct, robbery, theft of less than $100 in value, second-degree assault on law enforcement and first and second-degree assault. Online court records show his bond was set at $2,500 on May 31. A felony dismissal hearing is scheduled for June 28 in Charles County District Court.
Adney was also charged with second-degree assault and theft of less than $100 in value in an unrelated matter on May 18, according to online court records, and has a preliminary hearing June 24 in regard to that case.
Man held in alleged machete attack
Officers arrested a 21-year-old Waldorf man June 1 after he allegedly brandished a machete at a crowd, according to charging documents.
Around 11 p.m. June 1, the report says, officers responded to 925 Liquors on Old Washington Road in Waldorf. When they arrived at the scene, they learned the accused, Adam Godines Perez, was kicked out of La Hacienda II, which is located across the street from 925 Liquors. Perez allegedly walked to the liquor store and “retrieved what was described as a machete.” Perez is then accused of “chasing people through the parking lot” attempting to hit them with the weapon and striking one man on his left forearm.
According to the report, Perez was seen “sharpening the blade of the machete on a concrete curb” as the store owner directed patrons inside the store for safety. The store owner lost view of Perez and went outside while on the phone with 911 to obtain a description of Perez and the direction he’d last seen him moving. “When [the store owner] rounded the northern front corner,” the report says, “he found [Perez] to be on the other side of the wall approximately 2-3 feet away from him.” Perez then allegedly began slashing the weapon at the man, at which point officers arrived and Perez fled on foot into the surrounding woods. After he was apprehended, the report states, “it was apparent he was under the influence of alcohol” due to his poor physical condition, the odor of alcohol and how “he would at random become violent and uncooperative.” While at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center for treatment, Perez allegedly gave officers a false name, “Jose,” and date of birth before his fingerprints confirmed his identity.
Perez is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. A competency evaluation was ordered at his June 4 hearing in Charles County District Court, online court records show.
In this matter, Perez is charged with making a false statement to police, eight counts of fraudulently identifying oneself to avoid prosecution, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of both reckless endangerment and intoxicated endangerment and weapons offenses. In addition to this case, online records show Perez has outstanding charges from March, July, August and October 2017 in district court including disorderly conduct, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, failure to obey lawful orders, fraudulent self-identification and concealing a weapon.
Three charged in auto body shop lot break-in
Three Waldorf men have been charged with fourth-degree burglary, trespassing and rogue and vagabond in connection with an alleged break-in at the rear lot of Complete Auto Body in Waldorf. Officers were called to the lot June 2 after receiving a call from someone watching the business’ security cameras “from another remote location,” according to charging documents. The caller said that via the surveillance cameras, they saw that “three subjects climbed over the fence and got into one of the vehicles,” but was not sure if they took anything.
When they arrived at the scene, the report states, one of the men, who was later identified as 38-year-old Jerett Wesley Grubbs, allegedly was on the other side of the fence climbed back over the fence with the other two defendants, but climbed back over. The other two men, 33-yearold Marvin Torres and Jose Hernandez, followed suit. According to the report, “once inside the lot they all attempted to flee toward the front of the lot but was unsuccessful and tried to hid inside the lot.” Grubbs was allegedly found by a police dog search in a nearby bush.
All three men were released on their own recognizance and have scheduled Charles County District Court appearances July 26.
