There’s plenty for your children to do this summer

The school year is coming to an end, but not to worry, there are many fun, educationa­l activities and programs available in Charles County this summer to keep your children busy. From local camps to educationa­l activities and programs, your child will wish their summer could last forever.

The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism offers a large variety of camps, such as aquatics, themed, special needs and sports camps. This is a great opportunit­y for your children to advance their skills, socialize, make new friends and stay active. Camp spots can fill quickly so check out all the camps available today. If you are looking for an educationa­l experience for your child, Charles County Public Schools is sponsoring summer enrichment camps for students in kindergart­en through Grade 9. Camps begin the week of June 24 and run through the week ending on Aug. 2. No child should go hungry during the summer. If your child or someone you know might need a lunch this summer, Charles County Public Schools, in partnershi­p with other county agencies, is offering a free summer lunch program for Charles County children 18 and younger. Summer is a great time to relax poolside with a good book. Encourage your child to read this summer and participat­e in the Charles County Public Library’s 2019 Summer Reading Program, “Discovery Starts Here!” from June 8 to Sept. 9. All ages can register for this space themed program by going to ccpl.beanstack.org and get your registrati­on prize: a Summer Reading T-shirt and a Blue Crabs ticket. Participan­ts earn points through reading minutes, logging reviews or completing challenges. There are opportunit­ies to win prizes along the way; you even have the chance to win one of the grand prizes, which are $100 gift cards.

The Charles County Public Library has programs and activities all summer long for all ages. With four library branches and the Mobile Library, there are many opportunit­ies to dive into a new book, exercise your mind and take advantage of all the library resources.
