The lighting of the giant Christmas tree in New York’s Rockefeller Center — likely with skaters doing their thing on the nearby rink when the switch is flipped — is the traditional capper to this yearly special, featuring a number of “Today” personalities as hosts and also boasting a lineup of music stars rendering songs of the season. Especially given recent times, the show doubles as a postcard to welcome viewers from across the country to visit the B ig Apple, if they’re inclined to make the journey.

9 p.m. on BRAVO The Real Housewives of Orange County

One way to refresh a flagging TV show after a long run is to reintroduce a former cast member who is vividly remembered, fondly or otherwise, by fans. That’s exactly the strategy this “Real Housewives” series — which launched the entire franchise — is trying as it opens Season 16, after a 15th edition that faltered in the ratings. Heather Dubrow, who was a Housewife from Seasons 7 through 11, is rejoining the cast, along with fellow returnees Shannon Storms B eador, Gina Kirschenheiter and Emily Simpson.

10 p.m. on WRC Kelly Clarkson Presents: When Christmas Comes Around

Kelly Clarkson freely admits she’s a complete Christmas junkie, going so far as to feature a recurring segment called “Ambush Christmas” on her syndicated daytime talk show. Now, the Grammy- and Emmy-winning music superstar celebrates the release of her new holiday album with this festive special featuring new original songs as well as iconic yuletide classics, plus dancing and collaborations with special guests. Among those scheduled to appear are Ariana Grande, B rett Eldredge, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Odom Jr., Jay Leno and Amy Poehler, plus a certain beloved North Pole personality.
