EDGEWATER — James “Jim” Richard Hemler of Edgewater, Maryland, passed away on January 15th, 2022 at the Washington Hospital Center after having complicati­ons from heart surgery. Born on August 21st, 1946 in Baltimore, MD to the late Mary L. and Clement Hemler, Jim graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore and Loyola University Maryland. After college, he graduated from The University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He served as a dental officer in the U.S. Army, stationed at Presidio of Monterey, from 1972-1974. Jim maintained a dental practice in Bryans Road, Maryland for 42 years. Dr. Hemler strived to treat all of his patients as members of his own family. His interests were many and included bicycling in Europe, traveling, golf at South River Golf Club, spending time at Bethany Beach, and running in Annapolis Striders races.

In addition to his parents, Jim is predecease­d by his sister, Mary Sloane. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia “Pat” Wagner Hemler; his brothers Martin Hemler, Bob Hemler, Jack Hemler; sisters Cathy Emig, Meg Vigerstad, Helen Clemons, Jane Blonder; daughters Jennifer Miller ( John), Jill Melchionni (Mike), Amy Perry ( Lee); and grandchild­ren Abby, Alex, Katherine Miller, Madeline, Anna, Betsy, Ella Melchionni, Allie, Jane, Hannah Perry.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 -11:00 AM on Friday, January 28th at Severna Park United Methodist Church 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146. A memorial service will be held immediatel­y following at 11:00 AM.
