Calvert organization hosts book swap, reading
Motherhood Alliance Equity Village Empowerment Northern Calvert held a book signing and book swap March 26 at Dunkirk District Park.
“This was our organization’s first public event and it was a resounding success thanks to everyone who donated books and participated,” MAEVE Northern Calvert President Sandra Golden said in a news release.
“This was part service project and part community event. It was also an opportunity to share more about MAEVE Northern Calvert and what we do. We want to offer a heartfelt thank you to our community. We had an amazing turnout and we hope to make the MAEVE book swap an annual event.”
Local author Paige Hunt, who attended Huntingtown High School and studied early childhood education in college, read copies of her new book “Bubble Baby.”
The news release said the book was created “to bring a child’s view of the world to life ... to bring a smile to the readers and listeners face and help adults see a world that they have forgotten.”
The release said the book is based on real moments and silly comments between Hunt and her daughter.
Visitors also received a sneak peek of Hunt’s upcoming book, “My Mommy Ate The Monsters.”
Visitors also browsed through hun
dreds of free, gently-used donated books for readers of all ages that had been collected by the organization.
There was also a bookmark craft. The leftover books were donated to the Calvert Library and other local organizations.
MAEVE Northern Calvert is a nonprofit that offers a “village” for local mothers and provides service for the community, as well as organizing events, activities and support for members and their families and engages in service projects and charitable giving to support the community.
