Calvert students excel at FBLA conference

-

Calvert County students took top honors after competing in the virtual 2022 Maryland Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference held Feb. 29 and March 30.

Forty-five students from Northern High School, Huntingtown High School and Plum Point Middle School placed in the top 10 in their respective competitions. The top four students from each competition will now advance to the national competition, which will be held June 29–July 2 in Chicago, Ill.

Several regional and state leadership officers were also. Northern High School’s Olivia Herrin was elected as Region IV Vice President while while Northern student Sarah Hurley was elected as State Parliamentarian for the upcoming 2022-23 school year; both are students at Northern High School. Northern High School’s Aamaly Hossain served as FBLA State Vice President during the 2021-22 school year.

Nancy Tassa-Wilt, who has served as the advisor at Northern High School for the past 24 years, was named FBLA Maryland Local Outstanding Chapter Advisor. “While this conference was again virtual and most competitions were pre-recorded or done at their home schools, [nationals] will be a different story,” Tassa-Wilt said. “I told them to already pack their bags; we are getting on that plane to be with each other to share great memories as a chapter and with other members from across the country. I hope to again bring home some national winners.”
