Jordan Valley Community Health Center's current president and CEO will pass the torch to a new person on June 1, according to a press release.

Dr. Matthew Stinson will take over from current CEO Brooks Miller as Jordan Valley Community Health Center's next president and CEO on June 1, according to a press release. Stinson was previously the executive vice president of primary and behavioral health services.

Miller, who helped launch JVCHC more than 20 years ago, announced in 2023 his intent to retire in 2024. Jordan Valley is a federally qualified health center, which are clinics that provide primary care services to patients regardless of ability to pay and that qualify for specific Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.

Under Miller's leadership, JVCHC expanded to include medical, dental, vision and other services in multiple Springfield locations as well as clinics in Hollister, Lebanon, Marshfield and Republic.

The search and hiring process to replace Miller began in late 2023.

“As we started the search process, board members took the time to seek counsel from peers that have experienced a similar transition with the retirement of a founding leader,” said Mike Schnake, JVCHC board chair, in the press release. “Those intentional efforts shaped a process and hiring plan aligned with our desire for a strong and seamless leadership transition that preserves our culture, prioritizes service to our patients and positions Jordan Valley for continued success. We have absolute confidence in Dr. Stinson's ability to achieve that mission and vision.”

Stinson joined JVCHC in 2007 as a family physician and became medical director in 2010. In 2014, he joined Jordan Valley's executive team and was part of expanding programs such as Express Care, integrated behavioral health and optometry services.

Stinson is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University and St. Louis University School of Medicine. Previously, he has served as president of the Greene County Medical Society and on local nonprofit boards like the Child Advocacy Center. At the state level, he recently served on the Prior Authorization Committee for MO HealthNet. Stinson is an advocate for adoption, with six adopted children, and is passionate about caring for vulnerable children.

Stinson will oversee JVCHC's transition to Epic electronic health records, grow training resources for apprenticeships and its Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly.

“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity,” Stinson said in the press release. “It will be a privilege to lead this highly skilled team of professionals that share such a deeply rooted commitment to Jordan Valley's mission — improving access to health care and providing it with excellence and compassion. Our strength comes from remaining focused on innovating to serve our patients at the highest level."
