Browns add LB; kicker returns
Anthony Walker agreed Friday to sign a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Browns, agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed.
The linebacker paid a freeagent visit to Browns headquarters Thursday.
Walker, 25, spent the past four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, who drafted him in the fifth round out of Northwestern University in 2017. A full-time starter the past three years, Walker is a candidate to replace middle linebacker B.J. Goodson, who’s an unrestricted free agent after spending the 2020 season with the Browns.
Last season, Walker started all 17 games, including one in the playoffs. He played 697 defensive snaps (67.5%). He had 92 tackles, an interception, five passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
Walker finished 69th among the 83 qualifying linebackers ProFootballFocus.com graded in 2020.
Goodson was 21st in those rankings. He led the Browns with 91 tackles to go along with two interceptions, six passes defensed and a fumble recovery last season.
Parkey returning to kick for Browns
Cody Parkey is coming back to kick for the Browns.
Parkey became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday but agreed Friday to re-sign with the Browns on a one-year contract, two people familiar with the deal confirmed.
Later, the team announced its pact with Parkey along with an agreement to re-sign backup linebacker Elijah Lee. The club also announced its previously reported deals to re-sign wide receiver Rashard Higgins, returner/receiver JoJo Natson and backup offensive lineman Greg Senat.
Last season, Parkey made 19-of-22 field goals and 43-of47 extra points. He also made all 11 of his kicks in the play
Parkey, 29, entered the NFL in 2014 as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Eagles.
