Top 10 ‘moments’ offer chance to celebrate

-

The book “The Power of Moments” by Chip Heath and Dan Heath explores why brief experiences or “moments” can provide significant movement and change in our work. In order to capitalize on our “moments” during this unique school year, Mechanicsburg has used a running publication of “Top 10 Wins” to celebrate the extraordinary “moments” that are occurring across the district. During this pandemic, we cannot miss out on chances to connect, celebrate, and share in hopefulness.

Here is a recent set of Top 10 “moments” which illustrates why Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools is such a special place to work and learn!

■ 10 - COVID will not slow us down as we finish 20.21strong! Please remember to stay home if you are sick, quarantine if someone in your home is being tested, and stay vigilant with protocols as we near the finish line. 8 weeks left!

■ 09 - Since our last top 10 we have had 2 individual state placers in Bowling, 4 state placers in Wrestling, and a State Champion Boys Team in Bowling!!

■ 08 - Opening day for spring sports just means we have more excitement coming our way. Dynamic teams will be taking the field and completing on the track this spring season! I am hoping we add a few more honors to our plaques in the gym!

■ 07 - Kids in classrooms, guided by our exceptional staff, continues to be the priority. Thank you for showing up daily for our students.

■ 06 - Landforms! One of my favorite 4th grade events, other than wax museum :). So many illustrations of learning and examples of Portrait of a Graduate skills in their displays.

■ 05 - Now is NOT the time to become complacent. Mask

Up, Back Up, Clean Up, Wash Up, and Cover Up! These 5 things will help us stay in FULL-TIME FACE-TO-FACE instruction. Don’t let up now!

■ 04 - Ohio Hi Point, our Joint Vocational educational partner, has unveiled their expansion program and the opportunities awaiting our students are exciting. Continue to talk to students of all ages about pathways and careers. Opportunities for students are endless, which is a key ingredient to building hopefulness in our youth!

■ 03 - #Knowourwhy. This one will not change which is what makes us a district centered on communication, connection and collaboration!

■ 02 - Spring brings so many community events into the building, and we are planning for all of them! The musical, awards night, NHS induction, Prom, and GRADUATION of all ages. Thankful doesn’t begin to describe how it feels to be able to plan for these things.

■ 01 -HOPE! I recently shared our story at the National School Board Association Annual (Virtual) Event. Sharing the work of our staff and administration gives me HOPE, and it also builds and shares HOPE with so many other districts across the nation looking to engage in similar work. You all are amazing!
