HUBER HEIGHTS —

The Huber Heights school board is expected to vote next month on whether to put a tax levy on the May 2023 election ballot.

During a work session Tuesday evening, the board, along with Treasurer Penny Rucker and Superintendent Jason Enix, discussed the state of the district’s finances. This comes one week after the district submitted its 5-year forecast to the state, which outlines recent past, present, and projected budgetary and spending details.

Rucker said even if an emergency levy is approved by voters in May, the district will need to make at least $1.7 million in cuts within the next year in order to stay in good financial standing. If a levy is not passed in May, this number could rise to a total of $5 million in the next year, she said.

But according to the fiveyear forecast, the district has $59.2 million in the bank. This equals about 75% of one year’s expenses, which is about double the statewide average, according to a recent study by this news outlet.
