Movie: Deadpool 2, 8 PM on FX:

There was definitely no sophomore slump with this 2018 sequel to the 2016 darkly comic superhero blockbuste­r, with Ryan Reynolds returning as the snarky title character. The story finds Wade Wilson (Reynolds) reluctantl­y agreeing to join the X-men after his beloved fiancée Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) is murdered by an assassin. While mourning that traumatic loss, Deadpool and his fellow mutants try to stop Cable (Josh Brolin), a time-traveling cybernetic soldier. Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz and T.J. Miller also star.

As the founder of the Tennessee-based Remnant Fellowship Church and the Weigh Down Workshop

— a massively successful Christian-based diet program that preached the virtue of a slim waist and the power of prayer for weight loss —- Gwen Shamblin (Jennifer Grey) was a rare woman to lead a Southern megachurch. As her church grew across the nation, so did her ironfisted grip as its leader — accumulati­ng power and money, while creating a larger-than-life public persona with dramatical­ly teased and towering hair in this 2023 docudrama.

This 2022 drama is based on the 2017 real-life story of the late Brian Brown-easley (John Boyega), a decorated Marine Corps veteran in dire financial straits resulting from systemic failure.

He is concerned over the effects this is having on his daughter — as well as the very real prospect of homelessne­ss. So he threatens to blow up a bank unless he receives payment he is owed from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
