Anime Club: Anime Club is for youth ages 13-17 and will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 6- 7:30 p.m. at the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Administration Building. Get together with friends who love anime and manga as much as you do. Club meetings will involve discussing our favorite anime, learning more about Japanese culture, watching anime, drawing and more. American Sign Language Introduction Class: An American Sign Language Introductory Class for ages 16 and older will be held as a twosession class on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. at the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Administration Building. Learn the signed alphabet, basic words and conversational phrases as well as basic Deaf culture, in a relaxed, no pressure setting. Stained Glass Snowman:
A stained glass workshop for adults ages 18 and older will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Administration Building. Create a darling snowman that will last the whole winter season. One-day events are projects that can be completed in one class. The glass pieces are pre-cut. Learn the basic techniques of working with stained glass, or build on the skills you have already, and create this project. The registration fee is $75 and the deadline to register is Feb. 17. Shamrock Walk (Crow Series): A Shamrock Walk for youth ages 5-12 is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1 from 1-2 p.m. at Smith Park in New Carlisle. Green plants are emerging just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. Take a nature walk to look for shamrocks along the way. Listen to a story and play a game. The Shamrock Walk is part of the Crow Series and is held in partnership with the New Carlisle Public Library. This program is free and registration is required by Feb. 28. Woody Invasives, Management and Native Alternatives Workshop: A Woody Invasives, Management and Native Alternatives Workshop will be held on Saturday, March
11 at the National Trail Parks and Recreation Districts Administration Building. At this workshop for adults ages 18 and older, learn the life histories of major woody invasive species in our region that inform physical, chemical, and combined methods of control. Staff from MEEC will share best practices developed during more than 20 years of experience creating habitat for wildlife by freeing light, soil and moisture resources by removing invasive plants. We will highlight the rebuilding of the shrub, herb and understory tree layer, which can help limit reinvasion. The registration fee is $10 and the deadline to register is March 6. Youth Spring Soccer: Register now for Youth Spring Soccer. Spring Soccer is for youth in grades K-8 (current school year). The league will be held on two specified days and all games and practices will take place on those days. All teams are co-ed and divided by school districts when possible and by blind draft. Practices will be held throughout the county starting the week of March 13 (weather permitting) and last 6-7 weeks. Games will be held at the Eagle City Soccer Complex. Start Smart Soccer 1: Register now for Start Smart Soccer 1. Start Smart Soccer 1 is for children ages 3-4 ( as of March1) along with a parent or guardian and will be held on Saturdays, March 25-May 6 from 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. at the Eagle City Soccer Complex. This six-week, fun, instructional program is designed to teach basic beginner skills of soccer through drills and stations. Practice will be held once a week for 40 minutes. The parent or guardian will practice drills with their child to learn basic soccer skills. The first five weeks of the program will be practice and the last week will be a game. Parents and participants must bring their own size three soccer ball and water bottle to practice. The registration fee is $45 and the deadline to register is Feb. 17. Start Smart Soccer 2: Start Smart Soccer 2 is for children ages 4-5 (as of March 1) and will be held on Saturdays, March 25May 6 from 11 a.m. or noon at the Eagle City Soccer Complex. This six-week fun, instructional, co-ed league is designed to teach basic beginner skills of soccer through drills and stations. Each week will have a 30 minute practice followed by a short game. Every week new rules will be introduced to help the developing players learn more about the game. Parent participation may be required. Participants must supply their own size 3 soccer ball and shin guards. There will be no practices the week of spring break. The registration fee is $45 and the deadline to register is Feb. 17. Pilates: A new session of
Pilates will begin on Wednesday, March 1 - April 5 from 9-10 a.m. at the National Trail Parks and Recreation Districts Administration Building. Pilates is for ages 18 and older and is a low impact form of exercise that aims to strengthen and tone muscles, build strength, flexibility and balance. Trail Hikers: Trail Hikers is held on Wednesdays from 10-11 a.m.. These guided, self-paced hikes allow you to explore our local natural environment. These trails are all natural so be sure to wear your hiking boots. Hikers must complete a yearly registration form before their first hike. Go to ntprd.org to check out the Trail Hikers schedule.
