Church of Springfiel­d is worshippin­g in church at 638 South Fountain Ave. with social distancing and CDC guidelines being observed. The First Sunday of Lent will be celebrated with a message given by Pastor Adam Banks. Ben Babian will serve as Lay leader. Shannon Meadows will provide saxophone music during worship. Wes Babian will lead the singing of the hymns. The service is also available on-line live at 10 a.m. through the church website www.firstbapti­stspringfi­eld. org, or any time thereafter. 11 a.m. Children’s Sunday school will be held. There will not be an Adult Forum this Sunday. First Baptist is a diverse congregati­on that reflects the population of Springfiel­d. Walter Mock whose message will be “Bring It On!” On Sunday evening the Lenten Study will follow a light soup supper at 6 p.m. Discussion will center on the book, Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrecti­on, and the Mission of the Church, by N.T. Wright, an Anglican Bishop and English New Testament scholar. In the coming days: the Quilting and Sewing

Following the service on February 26, Cordelia Collins Schaber of the Foundation “Martha, Mary and Me” will present a video/photo program regarding the July 2022 flash flood in Eastern Kentucky. This event will take place in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Covenant members have been working to provide donations for those who have lost their homes and belongings. A list will be available of needed items at the program. A mission trip by Covenant members is planned for June 3-9. The public and anyone interested in this project is welcome to attend this informativ­e meeting.

■ 10 a.m. The Open Hands Free Pantry distribute­s canned and packaged food, fresh produce, and frozen meat each Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon; and each Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 529 W. Johnny Lytle Ave. The pantry is staffed and supported by several Springfiel­d churches.

■ 12 p.m. Midweek Lenten Service of three churches is hosted by St. John’s Lutheran Church, 27 N. Wittenberg. Three churches: St. John’s, First, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church are taking turns hosting the weeks of Lent. A light meal follows the noon service. 7 p.m., an evening Lenten service is preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m.
