Houston, we have an Oscar contender. Ron Howard’s dramatic retelling of a real-life drama earned nine Academy Award nominations, winning for sound and editing. Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon star as the astronauts whose 1970 moon mission becomes a terrifying life-or-death battle when an oxygen tank explodes. Faced with the triple threat of running out of oxygen, choking on carbon dioxide or freezing to death, they struggle to stay alive and make it home.

Homestead Rescue, 8 PM on DSC; 12 AM on DSC:

Raney family patriarch Marty attempts to help a family in Wyoming restore an inherited homestead with a tragic history, while attempting to unravel the mystery of an unfinished well. It’s one of their most creative builds yet, and Misty combines a one-of-akind aquaponic greenhouse and with a new duck sanctuary built by Matt, for an inventive “duckaponics” system that everyone goes “quackers” over in the Season 10 premiere episode “Black Hills Hope.”

La Brea, 9 PM on Ch. 2 and Ch. 5:

Gavin (Eoin Macken) leads his family toward a new way home, but each step inches everyone closer toward his devastating vision of Eve’s (Natalie Zea) death. And with Levi (Nicholas Gonzalez) ostracized from the others, he is given a chance at redemption. Then, with Gavin on the verge of dying, Eve and her family make a desperate attempt to set things right. Elsewhere, Veronica (Lily Santiago) reveals a secret that sends her relationship with Lucas (Josh Mckenzie) into jeopardy in the Season 2 finale “The Journey, Part 1.” Part 2 immediately follows.
