Q. Tell us about your education and/or years in the industry before teaching:
A. I spent 10 years in commercial construction as a Journeyman Craftsman, and then owned my own business for 14 years building custom homes.
Q. How long have you worked for OHP?
A. I’m currently in my 24th year at OHP teaching Construction trades.
Q. What do students do in your program?
A. In addition to employability and good work ethic, students learn lifelong skills in carpentry and masonry work. They learn how to read and design blueprints as well as site layouts and gain valuable skills like framing, roofing, siding, drywalling, cabinetry and trim work. They’ll also learn basic electricity.
Q. What’s your favorite thing about teaching?
A. The opportunity to make a difference in students’ lives.
Q. What’s your greatest achievement as a teacher?
A. Watching students grow and succeed in their careers.
Q. What’s your favorite memory of being a teacher?
A. My favorite memory was holding open houses and always seeing how proud and amazed the parents and grandparents were of their students when they saw the house the students had built in the community.
Q. Why do you believe CTE is important?
A. Career technical education is hands-on learning taught by career professionals that train students for their chosen career. This early start in high school is a crucial step in preparing students for an immediate career or pathway to college.
Q. What one word best describes you?
A. Passionate
Q. What are your hobbies?
A. Boating, swimming, offroading, snow skiing, fishing and camping and building almost anything.
