Shannon Estes, director of Special Education
Q. Tell us about your education:
A. I graduated from Wittenberg University with a double major in Elementary Education and Psychology. In 2018, I completed my MBA in Educational Leadership at Wright State University. Finally, I received my doctoral degree from the University of Findlay in May 2021.
Q. Tell us about your family:
A. My family is the real-life Brady Bunch. We have 4 kids in the house, one in sunny Florida and one stationed in Texas. My husband and I are always on the go, whether it is watching our kids play sports, hiking with our dogs, playing volleyball, or spending time on Norris Lake with friends and family.
Q. How long have you worked for Greenon Local Schools?
A. I have dedicated my teaching journey to Greenon Local Schools since the beginning of my career. In 1999, I began my career as a first-grade teacher. I became a Title Teacher in 2010 and moved on to be a Literacy Coach in 2021. This year, I embraced the opportunity to lead as the Director of Special Education.
Q. What’s your favorite thing about the Greenon community?
A. One of the things I love most about the Greenon community is its strong sense of family. How everyone comes together to support and care for one another creates a welcoming and inclusive environment. It’s heartwarming to see how we
Q. What one word best describes you?
A. Reliable all rally around each other during both the good times and the challenging moments. To me, Greenon is like a second home.
Q. What’s your greatest achievement as an employee for Greenon Schools so far?
A. One of the highlights of my time here has been working with struggling readers and witnessing the transformation in their confidence as they improve their reading skills. Seeing them grow and succeed in their learning journey is truly rewarding.
Q. What’s an upcoming opportunity for students that you’re excited about?
A. Greenon has many wonderful opportunities. Our PTO is bringing Max Stossel to speak about Social Awakening to our students, parents, and educators. We are all looking forward to learning about how social media impacts traditional and emotional learning.
Q. What’s your favorite thing about your job?
A. The best part of my job is witnessing the growth of our students, whether it’s a small improvement or a significant milestone. It’s truly rewarding to see them progress and achieve their goals.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. I see myself working at Greenon, passionately contributing to our students’ continued growth and development.
