Just-acquired Jeudy receives 3-year extension
Jerry Jeudy has yet to go through a single offseason workout with the Browns. Yet, the newly acquired wide receiver has already established himself as part of not just the team’s present, but also the future.
Jeudy has agreed to a three-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday. The deal is worth up to $58 million, with $41 million fully guaranteed.
“When we acquired Jerry via trade this spring, it was with the vision that he would become a core member of our offense in 2024 and beyond,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said in a team release. “He is a scheme-versatile receiver with high-level ability to separate against man coverage and a diverse number of ways to produce on the perimeter or in the slot. We felt that the ability to add a passionate and competitive player with his combination of strengths would be an important component of our offense now and into the future. At 24-years-old and just entering his prime, we are pleased to have Jerry as a member of the Browns for the next several seasons and believe the best is yet to come.”
The deal keeps Jeudy
with the Browns through the 2027 season. He enters this upcoming season playing on the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.
Jeudy didn’t indicate an extension on the horizon when he spoke last Thursday. However, he did indicate a
desire to be in an organization that valued him, which he said he felt immediately when he arrived in Northeast Ohio.
“Just when I stepped in the building, just the energy and excitement that I received when I got there,” Jeudy said
on an introductory Zoom call. “That made me feel welcomed. Yeah, I feel like a fresh start. It’s going to be exciting just to be able to be somewhere new, especially having all the great guys on the team. So it is just going to make things a lot more easier
for me and just better.”
The Browns acquired Jeudy from the Denver Broncos last week, sending back a fifth- and a sixth-round pick in this April’s draft. They had also restructured the final year of that contract, converting $11.862 million into a restructure bonus that was spread out over five seasons.
Jeudy was originally the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 draft out of the University of Alabama. In four seasons with the Broncos, spanning 57 games and 44 starts, he recorded 211 receptions for 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Browns have united Jeudy with one of his acknowledged football models, fellow Alabama product and South Florida native Amari Cooper, as well as a former 7-on-7 teammate as a Miami-area high school standout, Elijah Moore. The three were originally set to enter this year on the final seasons on their contracts, but that has now changed for Jeudy.
The extension certainly raises the bar for Jeudy in terms of outside expectations going into the season. No more, though, than the expectations he carries for himself.
“Personally, my ceiling is very high,” Jeudy said. “I have high expectations for myself. The past few years wasn’t exactly what I want it to be because different circumstances and stuff like that, but I’m here, I’m where my feet are at now, and I’m a Brown and I’m just ready to be the best version of myself here than I ever was before.”
