VERMILLION - Lorna Lee Sandkamp, age 85 of Vermillion, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday morning, January 31, 2024.

Lorna Lee, the daughter of Loren and Esther (Kirchner) Daniel, was born on March 19, 1938, in Waite Park, Minnesota. Following her graduation from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud with the class of 1956, Lorna Lee went to the Twin Cities to work at Nash Coffee. It was there that she was introduced to her future husband, Werner J. “Bernie” Sandkamp, through his sister, Carol. They later married on May 3, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waite Park, and were blessed with seven children. In 1970, she and Bernie purchased the old Poepl home on Main Street in Vermillion where Lorna Lee was a dedicated homemaker. In her younger years, she enjoyed waterskiin­g, skating, and drawing, and was an avid reader all of her life. She also enjoyed working in her garden which brought her great joy, feeding and watching the birds, and putting countless puzzles together. Lorna Lee also enjoyed being part of the St. John the Baptist CCW and funeral committee over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Michelle Daniel and Charles “Chuck” Daniel; son-in-law, Steve Anthony; and by her sister-inlaw, Karlene Daniel.

Lorna Lee is survived by her seven loving children, Dan (Suzanne), Karen Anthony, Jeannie (Tim) McCloskey, Dave (Patty), Jeff, Maggie (Doug) Lundell, Marlene Miller; grandchild­ren, Jordan ( Justin) Pasternak, Matt (Bailey) Anthony, Jake Anthony, Mary Anthony, Jerome Anthony, Derek (Laure) Sandkamp, James Sandkamp, Natalie Lundell, Josh Lundell, Hanna Miller, Jackson Miller; great-grandchild­ren, Sierra and Adrienne Sandkamp; sister, Debra ( John) Jayne; brother, Loren “Dan” Daniel; and by nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Michael Tix officiatin­g. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Starkson Family Life Celebratio­n Chapel of Hastings, and for one hour prior to mass at church on Wednesday afternoon.
