Carole Ann Labati, 81 of Stamford, CT and Charlestow­n, RI passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on May 25th. Carole was the beloved wife of 61 years of John Labati. She was born in Stamford in 1937 to the late John and Della Connors Cox and attended Stamford schools. After her graduation from Sacred Heart Academy, Carole went to work in the personnel office of Conde Nast Publicatio­ns in Greenwich. It was there, at a company picnic, that she met the love of her life and her future husband, John. Carole also worked as a bookkeeper at the office of Dr. Carl P. Kramer, as an executive secretary at CONDEC Corporatio­n, and at NAED. After retiring, Carole and John moved to Charlestow­n, RI, where Carole enjoyed gardening, knitting, her weekly card group and summer happy hours with her family. Carole will be remembered for her love of family, her fun-loving nature, and her strong faith. In addition to her husband she is survived by four children, Donna Thigpen and her husband, Bernard, of Stamford; John Jr. of Jersey City, NJ; Richard and his wife, Betty, of Stamford; James and his wife, Janet, of Sandy Hook, CT. She is also survived by one granddaugh­ter, Maria Labati, of Sandy Hook, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Carole’s dear friend, Nelly de la Cruz, for her care and compassion. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 29th, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30th, at the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www. stjude.org).
