Hooks for Heroes reels in funds for veterans

-

Above, John Ryan of Stamford, left, weighs in Josh Bouchard’s catch during the seventh annual Hooks for Heroes fishing tournament on Saturday. Bouchard, who was a Marine Corps sergeant who served nine years before being injured in Afghanistan, caught a 36 pound bass. At left, Rich Olson of American Legion Post 12 in Norwalk salutes heroes such as Bouchard, of Grandview Mass., and, at right, Brian Curtis of Waterbury, a sergeant in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The Halloween Yacht Club in Stamford hosted the event, where more than 200 fishermen raised money for families of wounded soldiers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital through the Disabled American Veterans Stamford Chapter 13's Operation Gift Card project. The group has raised several thousand dollars this year toward a goal of $20,000 for the year.
