Temporary stay not enough for father in failing health

-

“It seems Latin American migrants are not familiar with a critical aspect of American culture and legal system — you MUST go to ALL court dates. In societies with no rule of law and rampant corruption, that may not be as important as it is here. You can't just say ‘oh, I didn't get a letter.’ You will go to jail or be deported if you miss a single court date. It's much more critical than they seem to realize. All of these sob stories are a direct result of one or more missed court dates. Let this be a lesson to others.”

Laws need to be enforced, but our system allows for an amount of judicial discretion. This is probably one of those cases in which a temporary stay of the deportation order would be warranted.”

But, let's keep in mind he has lived here illegally for a very long time . ... He's paid his taxes, he's been a good man. He should be exempt from deportation but laws are laws, no matter how stupid. Again, he should be pardoned due to his current condition.”
