STAMFORD — Police say a Bridgeport man recently released from prison for dealing drugs was found with 300 folds of heroin at a West Side motel.

Capt. Richard Conklin said police heard there was going to be a big delivery of heroin at the LaQuinta Inn on Harvard Avenue on Thursday night.

Conklin said officers learned Steven Hutchinson, 29, who was released from federal prison on April 25, would be making the delivery. Members of the Special Response Team participated in the surveillance because Hutchinson had previously been convicted of state weapons charges.

Conklin said Hutchinson threw away a black plastic bag of rice when he noticed the officers. Conklin said there were 300 folds of unmarked heroin inside the bag. Conklin said rice is commonly used to keep the drugs from picking up moisture.

Rashad Heard, 28, of Price Street, Bridgeport, who is also on federal probation, was in the car Hutchinson was driving.

Conklin said officers found $235 in cash as well as 9mm bullets and heroin milling and packaging equipment inside Hutchinson’s Bridgeport home.

Hutchinson was charged with sale of certain illegal drugs, possession of narcotics, conspiracy to commit sale of narcotics, conspiracy to have narcotics with intent to sell.

The men were each held in lieu of a $750,000 court appearance bond.
