GLENBROOK
The monthly Glenbrook Neighborhood Association meetup is set for Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at Tawa Indian Cuisine at 487 Glenbrook Road in Stamford. The meetup is a chance to get to know neighbors in Glenbrook. The restaurant will be offering happy hour specials and complimentary appetizers.
COVE
The Christopher Sabia Memorial Wiffle Ball Tournament will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. at Cove Island Park in Stamford.
“Sabes” was a Stamford Legion baseball executive, coach and player for over two decades before he passed away from cancer in July 2017 at age 39. He was survived by his wife, Emma, and son, CJ.
New York Mets captain David Wright, a longtime friend of Sabia, will be in attendance along with Mets bullpen catcher and Stamford resident Dave Racainello.
The event will be capped at 64 teams. Entry fee is $100, and up to four players on each team can be 13 or older.
First- and second-place finishers will win four premium tickets and four on-field pregame batting practice passes to a New York Mets or New York Yankees game. A prize will also be awarded to third place.

NEWFIELD
Stamford students and residents in grades five to 12 can audition for the 2018 Stamford all-school musical, an after-school musical theater program sponsored by the Stamford Public Schools.
Auditions for the production of “Willy Wonka” will take place on Thursday and Friday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at Rippowam Middle School, 381 High Ridge Road. Attendees can come to either day.

WEST SIDE
Jackie Robinson Park, of “Fame,” presents “A Journey,” a musical one-woman show, at the Yerwood Censkates ter on Saturday at 3 p.m. The show is a performance piece that “celebrates our history, courage, hope, faith and love … it represents who we are and what we strive for.”
“A Journey” is written and performed by Kimberly Wilson, of Westport. Throughout the performance, Wilson portrays seven historical African-American women, including Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, and Maya Angelou.

NEWFIELD
The Gan Yeladim Early Childhood Center is hosting a back-to-school barbecue at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at the center, 770 High Ridge Road.
The event is hosted by the center’s PTA, which will also host meet-and-greets on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m., and on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at the center.
COVE
The Stamford Youth Hockey Association and the New York Rangers will host a “Try Hockey for Free” event at Terry Conners Rink at 1125 Cove Road on Saturday. The event will help introduce and expose young beginners to the game of hockey.
Each session will include an introductory on-ice lesson with professional instruction, free rental and loaner equipment, appearance and autographs with a New York Rangers alum, and an exclusive New York Rangers hockey stick for each participant.
The program is designed for children ages 5 to 9 with little or no skating or hockey experience.
Each session is limited to 85 participants and space will be filled on a firstcome, first-served basis. Advance registration is required. To register, visit juniorrangers.leagueapps.com.
GLENBROOK
The Connecticut State Ukrainian Day Committee will sponsor its 51st Ukrainian Day Festival on Sept. 9 at St. Basil Seminary, 161 Glenbrook Road.
The event begins at 9 a.m. with an outdoor Ukrainian arts-and-crafts bazaar of over 15 vendors.
There will be Ukrainian food offerings, including pyrohy (potato and cheese dumplings), holubtsi (stuffed cabbage), kovbasa (sausage) and kapusta (fried cabbage), along with desserts. Picnic food and beverages will also be available.
At 2:30 p.m., there will be a performance by Ukrainian dance groups, singers and musicians. From 5 to 8 p.m. a live Ukrainian band will perform.
The festival will take place rain or shine. Tickets range from $5 to $10. Funds raised will benefit the seminary and diocese.
