John F. Centonze DDS

Dr. John Centonze, a Stamford native, died September 6th at Stamford Hospital. He was predecease­d by his parents Michael and Marguerite Rich Centonze as well as his brother Michael and his sister Eleanor Spignesi. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beatrice, his children Allison and Michael and his daughter-in-law Dolly, and brothers-in-law Leo Spignesi and Al Jakola and sisters-in-law Connie Jakola and Antoinette Emerson as well as nieces and nephews.

He was born in Stamford in 1937 and attended Stamford High School, University of Connecticu­t, and Temple University. After serving in the Army, he practiced general dentistry in Stamford and Old Greenwich for 40 years. Upon retiring he found much joy teaching at the dental hygiene school at The University of Bridgeport.

He had a great love of reading, classical music (Pavarotti was his favorite), the Yankees and the UCONN Girls Basketball team.

We would like to thank Anthony Appiah and Wesner Thelamour for the wonderful care they gave to John.

Calling hours will be held at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford on Sunday, September 9th from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT.
