GLENBROOK

The Glenbrook Neighborho­od Associatio­n will hold its September quarterly meeting from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Glenbrook Community Center, 35 Crescent St.

Candidates in the Nov. 6 election have been invited to introduce themselves at the meeting, present a short statement, and stay afterward to speak with Glenbrook residents. The neighborho­od associatio­n will also provide informatio­n about Stamford’s new list of accepted recycling items, and what is no longer allowed.

STRAWBERRY HILL

The Strawberry Hill Neighborho­od Associatio­n will hold a ceremony Thursday in memory of Karina Tinajero-Arreguin, a former Stamford High School student who died in 2016 after being hit by a van on Strawberry Hill Avenue.

Tinajero-Arreguin was on her way to take the SAT when she was struck.

A bench with a plaque in her memory was installed at Carpinella Park, where the Strawberry Hill Neighborho­od Associatio­n will hold the ceremony starting at 3 p.m.

The ceremony will also highlight the other new benches installed at the park and their contributi­on to a “new ‘park’ feel for Carpinella Park,” according to a release from the organizati­on.

DOWNTOWN

The annual MarcUS for Change 5K Walk & Run will be held Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at Mill River Park and Greenway.

The race celebrates the life of Marcus Dixon McInerney, a former Stamford High School football player who died in an accidental shooting. The 5K is also a way for the Stamford community to come together to raise funds for the Stamford Public Schools Education Foundation.

The 5K will be one of the events under the umbrella of US Day, which will include entertainm­ent, food and activities that promote the health of the community’s youth. All participan­ts will receive a free shirt. The school with the most participan­ts will receive the MarcUS for Change Spirit Award as well as $500 toward the school’s PTO.

SOUTH END

The “Liver Life Walk,” meant to bring awareness to liver disease and raise funds for educationa­l programs and patient services, will be held Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hosted by the American Liver Foundation and American Foundation Connecticu­t Division, the walk will take place at Commons Park in the South End.

DOWNTOWN

Franklin Street Works will host a benefit party called “Intersecti­ons: Celebratin­g Feminist Voices” from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets start at $60 and can be purchased at 501auction­s.com/intersecti­ons.

The event will honor Ingrid Semaan, director of the University of Connecticu­t Stamford’s Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, and exhibiting artist Trisha Baga, who was in Franklin Street Works’ inaugural exhibition and has since had solo shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The event will feature music and an open bar, as well as a silent auction, that includes original artworks as prizes.

NORTH STAMFORD

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center at 39 Scofieldto­wn Road will feature an exhibit from Stamford’s Loft Artists Associatio­n until Oct. 28.

The exhibit, titled “The Loft Artists: Then and Now 40 Years of Art,” showcases 80 works from past and present members.

“The exhibition will provide a visual timeline of artists living in Stamford from 1978 to the present, illustrati­ng how the art has evolved into the current Stamford arts scene as well as showcasing the dynamic, reciprocal relationsh­ip the (Loft Artists Associatio­n) has created and fostered with the local community here,” said Jillian Casey, curator of collection­s at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center.

The exhibition includes a diverse collection of visual art from paintings and sculpture, to multimedia work and more.

Museum members can access the exhibit for free. Non-members can view the art with the price of admission to the museum.
