KEEP AN EYE ON

ADAMS IMPROVING: Freshman Brendan Adams was in a 3-for-19 shooting slump before Thursday night, when he knocked down 3 of 5 3-pointers (including a key one with 3 minutes to play) in UConn’s loss at Wichita State. Hurley has shown patience with the 6-foot-4 guard and will continue to do so.

“It’s hard for a freshman to develop. Not to make any excuses for him. I believe in Brendan. I believe in his shooting. I believe in his character, his family that he comes from, his upbringing, the schools that he’s gone to. This is not the easiest situation for a freshman to develop in when your culture isn’t formed. There’s not a lot of leadership in the program. It’s hard for a freshman to really develop and come along when we’re just trying to piece this whole organization together. That’s a glimpse of potentially what Brendan can bring to the program. He’s just going to get better.”

BULL MARKET: This isn’t your father’s (or your older brother’s) USF. The Bulls are four victories away from matching their single-season school record (22). They boast the AAC leader in rebounding (Alexis Yetna, 9.5), steals (Laquincy Rideau, 2.9) and assists (Rideau, 5.6). Yetna, a redshirt freshman, has more double-doubles (10) than six teams in the American — including UConn.

HISTORY LESSON: UConn is 20-3 all-time against USF, dating back to 1972, and had won 10 straight before a demoralizing, 65-53 loss in Tampa on Jan. 3 in the Huskies’ first AAC game and first true road game of the season.

AMPLE AT GAMPEL: UConn is 7-0 at Gampel Pavilion this season and is looking for its 10th undefeated season inside its on-campus arena. The last time the Huskies went unbeaten inside Gampel was the 2008-09 season.
