JALEN JELLIN’?: With Alterique Gilbert out indefinitely after sustaining a concussion and eye injury Thursday night, it appears the Huskies will be without their two best players, certainly their two best ballhandlers, on Sunday.

Jalen Adams has been out since suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee on Feb. 6. However, coach Dan Hurley didn’t entirely rule out Adams playing on Sunday.

“He’s the closest he’s been, in terms of actually doing stuff on the court,” Hurley noted. “He’s been out there some in practice and played. He’ll do shootaround (Sunday). We’ll just check with him, see how he feels on a day-to-day basis. He’s feeling good.”

The coach added that Adams’ return is “100 percent his call.”

THEY’VE DONE THIS BEFORE: If Gilbert and Adams are both out on Sunday, the Huskies can take some solace in the fact that they have beaten the Pirates already this season without any help from both players. On Feb. 3 in Hartford, Gilbert was sitting out his second of five straight games after re-injuring his surgically-repaired left shoulder a week earlier. Adams was healthy, but after a scoreless first half, he and Hurley got in a brief spat on the sidelines two minutes into the latter half, and the senior guard never re-entered the game. UConn led by six when Adams left the game and wound up winning by 24. BEARCAT-SLAYERS: ECU is one of only two teams behind the Huskies in the AAC standings, but the Pirates did knock off No. 20 Cincinnati 73-71 at Minges back on Jan. 5. It’s one of only three losses in league play for the Bearcats this season.
