Stamford veterans prefer parade but will help run Memorial Day race

“They got rid of the 4th of July fireworks too. This has nothing to do with ‘funds’ and everything to do with eliminating anything patriotic and celebrating America and her heros!” —Michele Corridor- O'Grady, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“Instead of a nice town with lots of history and a lot of pride, has become a little New York City with false bravado and ego. Most of those, that were vets, built this city and were a very large part of it. Forgetting their memory and dedication for all this yuppie crap, is a slap in the face.” —Phil Vincent Peluso, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“How does a run honor our veterans ? I don't understand...” —Linda Joanne Lyons, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“It’s a shame, that so many will throw liquor fueled barbeques, pool parties and cook outs, but won’t come out to support the very men and women that’s gave them the right to make the decisions they make today. It won’t be long before this country completely forgets the meaning of these days.” —George Previs, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“Can we cancel government now?” —Mike Fried, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“Stamford Leaders you wear Shame Shame Shame on your faces for this despicable act of lack of honor and respect for our Veterans. Keep the parade because we all need not forget their sacrifices which they did for all of us.” —CUINVA, via stamfordadvocate.com

“Blame belongs all over. Don't expect replies from city hall ever for anything. There is always a miscommunication. But veterans, we must be realistic about budgets and attendance. Perhaps the veterans can organize a flag placing at local cemeteries. A brief talk of experience of a veteran, a prayer, school kids who need to understand this should be there. With publicity many may attend. We can respect and honor the supreme sacrifice made. Parades are nice. But something different might be good too.”

“They deserve a dignified place to work. Long over due.” —Joan Burnett, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“Sorry, but ever since this year's article on municipal salaries, whenever I see a Stamford police officer or an article about the police, all I can think about is how much money they are paid - and how high our taxes are. I'm sure I'm not alone.” —MayorMcCheese, via stamfordadvocate.com

Stamford schools deficit tops $2M

“What a shock! And what will they do to reign in costs? Improve processes, streamline procedures, identify and eliminate waste, hold people accountable for inferior work, or none of the above.” —Mark D Plotzky, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“The dept of education needs major financial oversight they are out of control. The wpca seems bloated as well.” —Mike Fried, via facebook.com/stamfordadvocate

“Commenters have been saying since last summer that the BOE was going to be over budget because of re-org salaries and consultants. You can blame special education and mold all day but apparently SOMEONE at the BOE knew last year that they were going to go over budget even without those things. It's time for an audit. Last time the BOE members asked Central Office for an audit they were told "there's no money for an audit." Can't make this up. —Autumn77, via stamfordadvocate.com
