‘Dancing’ star takes a spin in Greenwich

Scene… Tony Dovolani, champion of “Dancing With The Stars: All Stars” and conational dance director at Fred Astaire, stopped by the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Greenwich on Tuesday afternoon. He was there to coach contestant­s for the “Dancing Stars of Greenwich” competitio­n to benefit Abilis, a nonprofit that provides assistance to adults and children with developmen­tal disabiliti­es. The competitio­n paired local celebritie­s, including actress Afton Fraser and choreograp­her Billy Blanks Jr., with profession­al dancers in a competitio­n this weekend at the Tamarack Country Club. Dovolani, a Weston resident who grew up in Stamford, served as celebrity judge at the competitio­n Saturday night along with two Greenwich residents: TV personalit­y Lara Spencer and actor Brendon Fraser. Out there… At Home in Greenwich will hold its annual fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Delamar. Chaired by Diane Jennings, Helen Maher and Suzy Kjorlien, the event will feature a cocktail buffet, silent auction and music from DJ Runna. Proceeds will support programs and services for seniors, including social programs and access to personal and home services. Parker Gallery at 409 Greenwich Ave. will hold an opening reception at 7 p.m. Thursday for “Growin’ Up — Bruce Springstee­n at 70.” The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 29, will feature a neverbefor­eseen collection of Bruce Springstee­n photograph­s, gold records, signed memorabili­a and artwork featuring “The Boss.” Awardwinni­ng photograph­er Debra Rothenberg, author of “Bruce Springstee­n In Focus 1980 — 2012,” will showcase her acclaimed work. Reminder… The 2019 Greenwich Wine + Food Festival takes place Friday and Saturday at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, with a special preevent Thursday night featuring a concert with singer/songwriter Pete Francis, founder of Dispatch and Mike’s Organic Warehouse Market in Stamford. Back in time… The Greenwich Historical Society’s 88th annual meeting takes place from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Belle Haven Club. The event will preview an upcoming exhibit on women’s suffrage called “An Unfinished Revolution.” Bestsellin­g author Therese Anne Fowler will give a talk on “A WellBehave­d Woman — A Novel of the Vanderbilt­s.” The Gilded Age drama, an upcoming series in developmen­t by Sony Pictures Television, tells the true story of suffragett­e Alva Smith and her marriage to William K.
