‘Dancing’ star takes a spin in Greenwich
Scene… Tony Dovolani, champion of “Dancing With The Stars: All Stars” and conational dance director at Fred Astaire, stopped by the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Greenwich on Tuesday afternoon. He was there to coach contestants for the “Dancing Stars of Greenwich” competition to benefit Abilis, a nonprofit that provides assistance to adults and children with developmental disabilities. The competition paired local celebrities, including actress Afton Fraser and choreographer Billy Blanks Jr., with professional dancers in a competition this weekend at the Tamarack Country Club. Dovolani, a Weston resident who grew up in Stamford, served as celebrity judge at the competition Saturday night along with two Greenwich residents: TV personality Lara Spencer and actor Brendon Fraser. Out there… At Home in Greenwich will hold its annual fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Delamar. Chaired by Diane Jennings, Helen Maher and Suzy Kjorlien, the event will feature a cocktail buffet, silent auction and music from DJ Runna. Parker Gallery at 409 Greenwich Ave. will hold an opening reception at 7 p.m. Thursday for “Growin’ Up — Bruce Springsteen at 70.” The exhibit, which runs through Sept. 29, will feature a neverbeforeseen collection of Bruce Springsteen photographs, gold records, signed memorabilia and artwork featuring “The Boss.” Awardwinning photographer Debra Rothenberg, author of “Bruce Springsteen In Focus 1980 — 2012,” will showcase her acclaimed work. Back in time… The Greenwich Historical Society’s 88th annual meeting takes place from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Belle Haven Club. The event will preview an upcoming exhibit on women’s suffrage called “An Unfinished Revolution.” Bestselling author Therese Anne Fowler will give a talk on “A WellBehaved Woman — A Novel of the Vanderbilts.” The Gilded Age drama, an upcoming series in development by Sony Pictures Television, tells the true story of suffragette Alva Smith and her marriage to William K.
