Martha meets up with Greenwich foodies

Scene… TV personalit­y and entertaini­ng guru Martha Stewart was seen with former Greenwich selectman Drew Marzullo at the ninth annual Greenwich Wine + Food Festival, which took place last weekend at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. The annual multiday event that benefits charitable organizati­ons, including the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and Greenwich Parks & Recreation Fund, featured performanc­es by Michael Franti and Spearhead and Little Big Town, as well as renowned chefs, restaurant­s and beverage companies serving up a variety of great food and drink.

Out there… The Americares Airlift Benefit, which celebrates the relief agency’s 40th anniversar­y, takes place Saturday at the JP Morgan Chase Hangar E1 at Westcheste­r County Airport. Actor, director and producer Tony Goldwyn and CNN anchor and national correspond­ent Erica Hill will host the event honoring Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspond­ent. The alwaysextr­aordinary evening will feature cocktails, dinner and dancing, and culminate with the signature Airlift Bon Voyage as a group of guests fly to the Dominican Republic to see Americares health programs firsthand. Out there… The Connecticu­t Playmakers will host “Let’s Swing with the Stars and The Fairfield Counts,” the area’s premier Swing Big Band, Friday and Saturday at the Unitarian Universali­st Congregati­on in Stamford. The event, directed by Michele Grace, will feature the 17piece band and 15 singers showcasing songs of the 1940s and an evening of dancing. Scene… Greenwich resident and America’s favorite judge and TV personalit­y Judge Judy Sheindlin and her husband, Judge Jerry Sheindlin, were seen dining at Pasta Vera on Greenwich Avenue last week.

Out there… The second annual DART Walk to the Finish takes place Saturday at Greenwich Point Park. The 2.5mile walk raises funds to fight NiemannPic­k disease type C, which is often referred to as children’s Alzheimer’s. Andrew Marella, the youngest son of DART’s founders Andrea and Phil Marella of Greenwich, is the only person in Connecticu­t with the rare disease. Now 20 years old, he has lived the longest with NPC. His sister Dana passed away from the disease in 2013, shortly before her 20th birthday. About 100 children in the United States have been diagnosed with the genetic disorder. DART’s work funds crucial research into new treatments for NPC, which has direct impacts into treatments for Alzheimer’s, HIV, heart disease and more. Out there… “Dream Locations and Special Places” will be presented by James Doyle, principal of Doyle Herman Design Associates, and Community Centers Inc. at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Belle Haven Club. Doyle, whose design business has completed awardwinni­ng residentia­l projects in the United States and Europe, will offer his insight into a range of private landscape projects in Greenwich and beyond. Out there… The Greenwich Historical Society’s new exhibit “An American Story: Finding Home in Fairfield County” will open Wednesday and be on view through Jan. 6. The exhibit, cosponsore­d by the Connecticu­t Institute for Refugees and Immigrants and the Fairfield Museum and History Center, gives touching accounts of the journeys of 10 immigrants from Cambodia, Congo, Colombia, Cuba, Hungary, India, Rwanda, Syria and Venezuela who rebuilt there lives here. Their stories are featured on banners suspended from the society’s museum gallery ceiling. A wall of historic and contempora­ry photos illustrate­s other individual­s, including 12 immigrants’ journeys to Greenwich from Chile, Italy, India, Mexico, Moldavia and the Soviet Union, who sought opportunit­y and added to the fabric of Fairfield County’s communitie­s.
