The town of Greenwich will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22. All residents are invited to participate in a townwide minute of joyful noise and to express gratitude for the Earth that sustains us. Join in by stepping outside at noon to ring bells and/or make noise to add to a collective voice led by the bells and music of the houses of worship throughout town. For more information, contact Director of Environmental Affairs Patricia Sesto at psesto@greenwichct.org.

Good deeds… Greenwich residents Len and Sara LaPorta donated 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to the first responders in town. The sanitizer from Absolute Green was delivered to Public Safety Complex by Absolute Green founder and CEO Karen

Halo. The donation and delivery was coordinated by state Rep. Steve Meskers.

Scene… Sky Mercede of Forever Sweet Bakery in Norwalk met up with ESPN host Mike Greenberg while making a delivery in the Cranbury section of Norwalk last week. Generous donations… Teacher Audrey Barrette and her second grade class at Riverside Elementary School on Hendrie Avenue donated 100 masks to the ICU Department at Greenwich Hospital.

Making masks… Greenwich resident Arjun Dayal is doing his part during the COVID-19 crisis by using his 3D printer to make face masks and shields for healthcare workers on the front lines. Some of the items he made have been donated to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. The 17-year-old, who is doing this for free, also has orders from hospitals in White Plains, New York and Chicago.

Cross, singer Marianne Faithfull, singer/record producer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, “Fox and Friends” weekend morning host Jedediah Bila and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson are some of the many famous people who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Moving moment… A touching tribute to our health care workers on the front lines at Greenwich

Hospital took place on Thursday afternoon. A caravan of first responders, including ambulances, patrol units, fire trucks and unmarked police cars from Greenwich and Westchester County, saluted our amazing workers by circling the hospital on Perryridge Road with sirens blaring and lights flashing.

Good deeds… Joe Marini, owner of Chicken Joe’s, and philanthropist Joe Kaliko worked with the staff at the popular eatery and other community members to donate 4,300 prepackaged meals to officers at the Greenwich and Bridgeport police departments as well as to health care workers at Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Danbury Hospitals, along with St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport and White Plains Hospital.

“Starting over is an acceptance of a past we can’t change, an unrelenting conviction that the future can be different, and the stubborn wisdom to use the past to make the future what the past was not.”
