Three former Yale stars to play for Premier League title
A wild summer for professional lacrosse will wrap up Sunday with the Premier Lacrosse League championship game featuring the Chaos and Whipsnakes.
Former Yale stars Eric
Scott and Mark Glicini combined for three goals as the Chaos defeated the Archers 13-9 in Thursday’s semifinal. Andy Towers, the former head coach at Hartford and assistant at Fairfield, guided the Chaos into the title game.
The undefeated Whipsnakes
include former Sacred Heart star Max Tuttle, who has three goals including one in a 13-12 semifinal win over the Redwoods. Westport’s Isaac Paparo (one assist) and former Yale standout Tyler Warner (13 ground balls) are also on the Whipsnakes’
roster.
Matt Gaudet (Yale) had eight goals for the Chrome, former Fairfield University star Brent Adams of Norwalk had five goals and 12 ground balls for the Redwoods, while the Waterdogs featured Easton’s
Connor Kelly (five goals, one assist), former Yale star Ben Reeves (three assists) and former Fairfield University goalie Charlie Cipriano, who had 30 saves, a .476 save percentage and an 11.95 goals-against average.
The championship game is set for 12:30 p.m. and will air on NBC.
The Major League Lacrosse season wrapped up July 26 with the Boston Cannons defeating the Denver Outlaws for the championship.
The Connecticut Hammerheads and Chesapeake Bayhawks reached the semifinals but pulled out due to COVID-19 concerns, which resulted in the Boston-Denver semifinal becoming the championship game.
Connecticut’s Will Sands led the MLL with 11 assists while Bradley Voigt was second with 16 goals. Sean Sconone of the Hammerheads led the league with a .571 save percentage and 15.2 saves per game.
Sconone (Goalie of the Year) and Bill Warder (Coach of the Year) are finalists for major MLL awards as is Darien’s Mark Evanchick of the Philadelphia Barrage, one of three finalists for MLL Rookie of the Year.
