Judges Judy and Jerry Sheindlin hold court at Polpo DISH

Scene… Greenwich residents Judge Judy Sheindlin and her husband Judge Jerry Sheindlin were seen having dinner at Polpo Restaurant in Greenwich last week. Also seen dining on the same night was Fox Business senior correspond­ent Charlie Gasparino and his wife, Virginia, with Greenwich resident and private investor Gary Cella and his wife, Dr. Christina DelPin Cella. America’s favorite judge was also seen shopping at Home Boutique of Greenwich on Lewis Street earlier in the day.

Some like it Hot… Garden Catering’s popular bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, known as “The Hotsy” and named after longtime employee Frank “Hotsy” Bertino, was declared the Best Breakfast Sandwich in America by Restaurant Hospitalit­y Magazine. The winning sandwich is served with Hotsy’s famous spicy chili on a New York-style hard roll with an added side of potato cones. In the 1990s, Bertino introduced his legendary breakfast sandwich and famous chili recipe to Garden Catering owner Frank Carpenteri Sr. A Cos Cob native and former owner of the now retired popular haunt The Oasis on the Post Road, Bertino died in 2012 at age 91.

Out there… The National Trust for Historic Preservati­on has presented the Trustees Emeritus Award for Excellence in the Stewardshi­p of Historic Sites to the Greenwich Historical Society in Cos Cob. The organizati­on is one of nine award winners honored during the 2020 Past Forward Online National Preservati­on Conference this week. The Bush Holley House was the epicenter of American Impression­ism as renowned artists gathered to paint and share ideas about art and society in the late 19th century and early 20th century. In 1957, the Greenwich Historical Society saved the house and restored it as its headquarte­rs. In 2018, a renovation and expansion of the new campus was completed, providing the community with exhibits, gardens, public programs, archives, collection­s storage and school programs. This year’s recipients were honored on Oct. 29 at the virtual National Preservati­on Awards ceremony hosted by television host and preservati­onist Bob Vila.

Out there… The Greenwich Library will hold its Friends Friday Film Reel Talk with award-winning

writer and producer John McNamara virtually from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. McNamara will discuss his widely acclaimed movie “Trumbo” and his life as a Hollywood mover-andshaker. To register and for more info, go to www.green wichlibrar­y.org/.

Tea and Talk… The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum on West Avenue in Norwalk will host a virtual First Ladies Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. The event, chaired by LMMM trustee Hunter Arton, will

feature a talk titled, “The Media’s Fascinatio­n with First Ladies” with Lisa M. Burns, professor of media studies at Quinnipiac University. Burns’ edited collection, “Media Relations and the Modern First Lady: From Jacqueline Kennedy to Melania Trump” was released in February 2020. She is also the author of “First Ladies and the Fourth Estate: Press Framing of Presidenti­al Wives,” and has published many journal articles and book chapters on first ladies. Out there… The Greenwich Historical Society on Strickland Road in Cos Cob will hold a Mini Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. Some of the items on the lineup include Meg Critchell’s Flower Bar, dinners and healthy snacks from Courtnay’s Kitchen, signature treats from Dough & Co., and fresh picked apples, pears and more from Double L Market.
