Susan Cass Creaser

-

Sue Creaser left her beloved family early in the morning on December 19, 2020 in Cary, NC after a long and brave struggle against brain cancer. Born in Santa Clara, California on December 30, 1968, she was the youngest daughter of Laurence John and Helen Gurnowski Cass. At the age of three, Sue, her four siblings and parents moved to the East Coast where they settled in Stamford, Connecticut. She attended Northeast Elementary, Turn of River Middle and Stamford High schools. She studied abroad in London and earned a BA in English and Biology at the University of Connecticut, Storrs in 1990. A graphic designer, editor and ad writer, Sue worked at numerous places including Connecticut Magazine, and most recently Stanford White Engineering in Raleigh.

Sue married her husband John H. Creaser in 1996 and lived in Stamford, CT where they welcomed two children, Ethan and Lauren. The family moved to North Carolina, settling in Holly Springs and then ultimately Cary. Sue was an active PTA board member at Washington Elementary, loved teaching Sunday School and organizing monthly chess games for kids at Bond Lake Park in Cary.

Throughout her life, Sue was a nature lover, cloud watcher and could be found often in Bond Park or Sugg Farm walking or running with her dog. She travelled extensively but her great love was the beach - especially North Topsail Island in North Carolina. She was a devoted mother, avid reader, runner, and walker and practiced yoga regularly. She loved her job at Stanford White and volunteering at the SPCA - adopting and adoring 3 cats (G.G., Jingles, Sarah) and her dog, Beau.

A talented artist in many mediums, Sue created multiple acclaimed poster and marketing designs for Carolina Children’s Theatre in Holly Springs, NC and Smatter Theatre Ensemble in New York City.

She is survived by her husband, John, and children, Ethan Benjamin and Lauren Suzanne of Cary, NC; her siblings Alison C. Miller and her husband, Christopher, of Stamford,

CT; Laurence J. Cass, Jr. and his wife, Nancy Scherlong, of Norwalk, CT; Christina C. Catton and her husband, James, of Fuquay Varina, NC; and her mother-in-law, Barbara Creaser and sister-in-law, Mary Creaser of Torrington, CT.

She was predeceased by her parents and sister Joanna L. Cass.

Sue is also survived by seven nieces and nephews: Larry (III), Brian and Danielle Cass of Weston, CT; Albert and Clara Miller of Stamford, CT; and Leighton and Christopher Catton of Fuquay Varina, NC.

A memorial for Sue will be held for close family members at the Kirk of Kildaire in Cary, NC.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any of Sue’s favorite nonprofits in memory of Sue Creaser to: The NC SPCA, PETA, the USDA Plant-A-Tree Program or The Cloud Appreciation Society, all of which brought Sue great joy and wonder.
