Lisa Nemchek

-

August 7, 1957 – December 22, 2020

Lisa was born in the Bronx, New York and moved to Stamford at a young age where she attended Rogers School and graduated from Stamford High School. She went on to obtain a Nursing Degree from the University of Bridgeport and in 2019 she reached one of her finest milestones by achieving both a Masters and PHD from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing.

Throughout her life, Lisa worked at numerous Hospitals and other Health Care facilities bringing her practical nursing experience and problem-solving skills to every position she has held. Later in her career she used her nursing background to advance to administrative and eventually executive positions at a number of Health Insurance Companies.

Lisa will always be remembered as a consummate professional with a great heart and infectious laugh. She loved to travel the world with her friends and family. She was a voracious reader and published a number of complex articles in professional nursing journals.

One of the greatest parts of Lisa’s legacy is the abundance of friends she has accumulated from all walks of life with whom she made it a priority to keep in touch. She made a lasting impression on anyone she has met whether from childhood, school, the workplace, or even a chance meeting on a subway or supermarket. Her most prized possession, however, was her large family, each member of which she loved and cherished more than life itself. There was nothing more special than sitting down with her family to a delicious Sunday dinner that Lisa had prepared

Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2001 and courageously battled her disease for nearly 20 years.

However, she absolutely refused to capitulate to her illness, nor would she let it define her as a person or inhibit the achievement of her life goals. In fact, she received her doctorate in nursing while bravely fighting end-stage metastatic breast cancer.

Lisa was predeceased by her parents, Santos and Patricia Mercado. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Edward F Nemchek, Jr.; her daughter Sara Nemchek; son Daniel Nemchek (Cristina): and her grandson Ozzy and granddaughter Millie of Irvington, NY; her sisters, Patrice Arena (Nick) of Stamford and Tresa Toscano (Daniel) of Darien; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; cousins; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be from 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Nicholas Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Services and interment will be private for safety reasons in light of Covid-19. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Lisa’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on their website at www.stjude.org. For online condolences, please visit Cognetta. com
