Robert M. Gannon Sr.

Robert (Bob) M. Gannon Sr. was born in Springdale, CT and passed away peacefully at age 91 on February 27, 2021 at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, CT of complicati­ons from Alzheimer’s Disease.

A lifelong resident of Connecticu­t, Bob graduated from Stamford HS and joined the Marines at 17 serving as a radio operator aboard an aircraft carrier in the North African Campaign during WWII. Upon his return, he graduated from UCONN (class of ‘52) where he met his wife, Janet, of nearly 70 years. He worked at New York Telephone Company, AT&T, American Bell Internatio­nal and NYNEX, from which he retired in 1985. Civic involvemen­t included serving as a NYNEX executive emissary for the United Way after he retired. Prior to that he was President of the Chelsea Lions Club in NYC, and he was a congregant at St. Matthews Church in Norwalk.

An avid golfer, Bob was a member of Shorehaven Golf Club for over 50 years where he had five holes in one in five consecutiv­e decades. He loved his family, gardening, singing, and traveling -- taking extended internatio­nal and cross-country trips with his family where he enjoyed immersing himself in local customs, meeting people of all nationalit­ies and background­s, and seeing new places. Bob and Janet wintered every year in Florida enjoying the sunshine and escaping the cold Connecticu­t winters. Bob was known for having a wonderful sense of humor and made friends wherever he went.

He was the son of Harold and Claire and is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Harold Jr., Jack, and Donald. Bob is survived by his wife Janet; daughters Carol Fellows, Lois and her husband Steven Estrada, son Robert Jr.; grandchild­ren Gregory Fellows, Russell Fellows and his wife Becky Miesel, Robert Fellows and his wife Lauren, Sarah Gannon, Michael Gannon; and great-grandchild­ren Maya and Elliott Fellows.

A memorial service will be scheduled this Summer at a place and time to be determined. Robert will be buried at a private ceremony attended by the family at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, Ct.
