Elizabeth M. Joseph

-

Elizabeth (Betty) Joseph, longtime resident of Stamford, CT, passed away on April 14, 2021 at the age of 82.

Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Kelly Mulkeen. A lifelong learner, Betty began her formal college career while working a full-time job and raising four children. She graduated with honors with a B.G.S.D., Humanities, University of Connecticut and M.A., Humanities, Manhattanville College.

After retiring from the World Affairs Forum, Betty was able to continue her service to the community through various volunteer activities including St. Leo Parish Social Concerns Committee, the AAUW, and the Friends of Ferguson Library.

A proud Bronx native, she formed lifelong friendships through St. Helena School; friends who loved their dear “Mul,” to the end, and was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan. After a move to the suburbs, she was proud to conquer her fear of driving to earn her driver’s license. Betty always had her nose in a book, and loved the arts, travel, the ocean and her Irish roots.

Her innate compassion for humankind and sense of fairness touched all who knew her. As a Mom, she had an incredible ability to nurture any spark of interest in her children. As a grandmother, her love was unconditional.

She is survived by her loving husband, George E. Joseph, daughters Kathleen Kelley (Jim) and Eileen Joseph (Brian Self), sons George Joseph (Meredith) and Michael Joseph (Kate Marks) and 9 grandchildren: Jennifer, Elizabeth, Katherine, Patricia, Michael Paul, Dante, Anthony, Gabriel and Xavier. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Joseph; parents, Michael and Elizabeth Mulkeen; brother, Thomas Mulkeen and sister, Anne Heilbron.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, April 19 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, CT, and service, to be celebrated April 20, 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo Parish, 24 Roxbury Rd., Stamford, CT.
