Jerry Springer rules in favor of bike cops on Greenwich Ave.
Scene… TV personality Jerry Springer, former host of “The Jerry Springer Show” who now stars on “Judge Jerry,” met up with two of Greenwich’s finest while they were out on their new electronic bikes Friday morning. Greenwich Police Officers John D’Inverno and Robert Smurlo are part of the Greenwich Police Department’s community policing initiative, enabling them to interact with merchants, shoppers and the public on the Avenue and beyond.
Out there… Vineyard Vines is donating 20 percent of the proceeds of sales from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6, to benefit Coffee For Good, the coffee shop and café at the historical Solomon Mead House at the Second Congregational Church on Maple Avenue in Greenwich. Founded by Deb Rogan, and in collaboration with Abilis and the church, the independent nonprofit coffee shop will employs people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Scene… Daytime Emmy Award-winning judge Marilyn Milian was seen having dinner last week at Tony’s at the JHouse in Riverside. Milian presides over the American courtroom television series “The People’s Court” on WTIC Fox 61.
Out there… The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed LobsterCraft, located at 107 Greenwich Ave., with a ribbon-cutting and grandopening ceremony. Owner Mike Harden, a Coast Guard captain and licensed lobster fisherman, is featuring a full menu of fresh lobster offerings at this new location. For more info, call 203-900-1555.
Scene… Kathie Lee Gifford, former co-host of the “Today” show, received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last Wednesday. The virtual ceremony highlighted the 67-year-old television personality’s career with messages from singer/ songwriter Dolly Parton, who wrote the forward for Gifford’s book “It’s Never Too Late;” her former “Today” co-host and friend Hoda Kotb; and actor/TV personality Craig Ferguson, who co-starred with Gifford in the movie she wrote, “Then Came You.” Gifford, who still has her home in Riverside, is now a resident of Nashville, where she is busy writing and producing music and TV films. Her star is just five stars away from her former co-host, the late Regis Philbin of Greenwich.
Out there… In celebration of Mother’s Day, Splurge is partnering with the YWCA Greenwich to donate gifts to mothers in the Greenwich community who are victims or survivors of domestic violence. Through May 5, with every purchase of $150 or more at the shop on Lewis Street, Splurge will donate a gift to a local mom who might not otherwise receive a Mother’s Day gift this year. Scene… The UJA-JCC is featuring a Zoom conversation on “Tackling AntiSemitism and Bigotry” with Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Zach Banner from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 4. The event will be moderated by Michael Neuman, founder of the Jewish Inspiration Foundation.
Banner is one of the first NFL players to speak out on the issue of antiSemitism. A former member of Zeta Beta Tau, a historically Jewish fraternity, Banner credits his fraternity brothers with teaching about the Jewish community.
