Former Knicks all-star dines in Riverside

Scene… Former New York Knicks all-star and Greenwich resident Allan Houston, who is now a special assistant to the Knicks general manager, was seen dining at Tony’s at the JHouse in Riverside recently.

Out there… The second annual Champion A Champion Golf Classic, which celebrates the 21st anniversar­y of the Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets, takes place at the Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich on Sept. 20. The event will raise money for youth empowermen­t programs at the Global Citizens Initiative and Matsui 55 Baseball Foundation. The all-star lineup of celebritie­s in attendance will include former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine; former New York Yankee manager Joe Torre; former Yankee outfielder Hideki Matsui, former Mets stars Ron Darling and John Franco; former Knicks star John Starks; and Ed Randall, host of “Ed Randall’s Talking Baseball” on WFAN-AM; and MLB Network’s Bob Costas. Scene… Former New York City Police Commission­er Bill Bratton appeared at a book-signing and cocktail reception hosted by Bob and Jan Dilenschne­ider at their home in Darien earlier this month. Bratton discussed his new book, “The Profession, A Memoir of Community, Race and the Arc of Policing in America” to a crowd of about 60 in attendance. Bratton is the former chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, chief of the New York City Transit Police, and commission­er of the Boston Police Department and the New York City Police Department.

On the lawn… The Bedford Playhouse in nearby Bedford, N.Y., is hosting an outdoor show celebratin­g

the “Golden Age of Broadway” at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, on the Playhouse Lawn. The event will feature award-winning composer and musical director Joseph Thalken, with

Taste and stroll… The New Canaan Chamber of

Commerce’s event dubbed the “Taste of New Canaan Stroll,” which will benefit the New Canaan Food Pantry, takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25. Patrons can select from one of the three walking tours — the 10-stop Taste Tour, the six-stop Family Fiesta or the 10-stop Wine Trail. The evening will get started at 5 p.m. with music by local musician Nick Depuy and treats at the William Pitt Sotheby’s office on Cherry Street.
