James Edward “Polly” “Poison” Mitchell, Jr., age 70, departed this life peacefully on August, 24, 2021.

Polly was born on November 28, 1950, in Stamford, CT, to James E. Mitchell, Sr. and Imogene Mitchell (McLeod) Who both preceded him in death.

He was the second of five children born to this union.

James attended Stamford Public Schools. After high school, James was employed by Chemical Testing for many years.

James was an avid baseball player and he received certificat­ion from the Board of Recreation at the Southfield Village Afterschoo­l Softball League, while a member of the championsh­ip “GIANTS” team. In addition, he obtained a certificat­e for athletic proficienc­y and fine sportsmans­hip through the “Lione Associatio­n of Little League Baseball.”

James was known for his sense of humor, his passion for helping others, and telling jokes for family and close friends. He pursued some of his many hobbies, including writing, poetry, and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was predecease­d by a brother, Kelvin (Cuppy) Mitchell and a brother in law, Mott Shelton.

Polly leaves to cherish his memory, his significan­t other, Sandra King; his sons:

James Mitchell (Smoo) of Bridgeport, CT; Terrance Wortham of Bridgeport, CT; Kelvin, Travis, Curtis, and Reggie from NC; Martin Mitchell of Torrington, CT; Stephen and Allan King of Torrington, CT; daughters: Ebony Mitchell of Bridgeport, CT; LaTisha King (Dupree), of Torrington, CT; and April Mitchell of Torrington, CT. He leaves nineteen grandchild­ren: Jakii, Jaylinn, and Layla Mitchell, Jada Edwards, Johnier Santos, Semaj Santos of Bridgeport, CT; Laamaj and Shapreea Minnifield of Torrington, CT; Noelle Lamotey of Torrington, CT; Allan Jr., Margelyne and Shaylasia King of Torrington, CT; Nivlek, Xavier, Jaxon, Leime, Maurice, Jeremiah, Isaiah and Sammy MCcrimmons of NC. He also leaves two brothers: Michael Jerry of Georgia, and John Mitchell (Barbi) of Charlotte, NC; three sisters: Rosalind Shelton, of Bridgeport, CT, Shanika Mitchell, of Stamford, CT and Crystal Mitchell- Donald (Alan) of Bridgeport, CT; He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebratio­n of Life service will be held on Friday, September 10th, 11:00 a.m., at Wilson Memorial Church, 164 Richmond Hill Avenue, Stamford. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery followed by a repast at Dyke Lane Park in Stamford.
