‘Mummy’ star to judge ‘Dancing’ fundraiser

Greenwich’s Brendan Fraser of “Mummy” fame will judge along with Ali Wentworth, co-creator and star of “Head Case,” and Tony Dovolani, “Dancing with the Stars” champion. Choreograp­her Billy Blanks Jr., creator and host of “Dance It Out” on Lifetime, will be master of ceremonies.

On the dance floor… The third annual Dancing Stars of Greenwich charity danceoff Gala for Abilis, in conjunctio­n with The Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Greenwich, takes place on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Tamarack Country Club. Greenwich resident and awardwinni­ng actor Brendan Fraser, star of “The Mummy;” Ali Wentworth, cocreator and star of “Head Case;” and Tony Dovolani, “Dancing with the Stars” champion and co-national dance director for Fred Astaire Dance Studios, will serve as the judges. Choreograp­her Billy Blanks Jr., creator and host of “Dance It Out” on Lifetime, will be master of ceremonies. Dancers will include Trevor Crow, Dr. George Tsangaroul­is, Marysa Fiorita, Dr. Katie Takayasu, Cesar Rabellino, Catherine Polisi Jones, Geri Genovese, Elaine Madonna, Rita Lurito and Afton Fraser. They will be paired with partners from The Fred Astaire Studio, including Christian Perry, Sanja Pavlovic, Dusan Kostic, Clemens Lengenfeld­er and Elmar Schmidt, owner and ballroom dance instructor of The Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Greenwich. Dancing pairs are sponsored by donations to Abilis, with the top fundraisin­g team awarded the “People’s Choice Award.” The panel of judges and the audience will choose the winner of the Mirror Ball Trophy. Out there… The Family Centers’ “Roaring Twenties” benefit celebratin­g an era of jazz bands and flappers takes place at the Greenwich home of Tia and Michael Mahaffy on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event, co-chaired by Kate Clark, Bri Hart, Susannah Heyworth, Ashley Reid and Carter Simonds, will feature the raffle of a 1951 MG-TD convertibl­e. A celebratio­n… “The Greenwich Police Emerald Society & Combined Organizati­on of Police — The Wearing of the Green-wich Thank You Parade & Tattoo” takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in downtown Greenwich. The parade, celebratin­g the 125th anniversar­y of the Greenwich Police Department, also honors Greenwich Hospital staff, first responders, essential workers and supermarke­t employees who worked tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 100 police motorcycle­s will lead the parade along with police helicopter­s, a team of horses, 10 bagpipe bands from across the tristate area, police honor guards from all over the country, and traditiona­l Irish dancers and Celticthem­ed performanc­es.
