New Canaan: Booster clinic planned for Irwin House

- By Grace Duffield

NEW CANAAN — The New Canaan Health Department plans to provide Pfizer booster shots and vaccines for eligible residents starting Thursday at the Irwin House, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during his weekly COVID-19 update Thursday.

Residents age 12 and older who are in need of a first or second dose of Pfizer vaccines are welcome to register to get shots at Irwin Park, at 848 Weed St.

Only nine COVID-19 cases in town have been reported as of Thursday, the same number as last week, according to Moynihan. “The nine cases are all due to travel and family transmission,” he said.

The report does not include students who are away at college.

There are two children in the school district and one staff member who have confirmed COVID-19 cases and are isolating, according to the district website dashboard on Friday. One student is in New Canaan High School, the other child attends Saxe Middle School, and the staff member works at West Elementary School.

There are eight students and no staff members in quarantine due to close contact with an infected individual.

Moynihan shared the local policies for getting a booster shot, as the town works in accordance with the state Department of Public Health guidelines.

People who have received Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine should get a booster shot if they are 65 years and older or have underlying medical conditions or an increased risk of exposure to coronavirus because of their occupational or institutional setting.

Updated information on the weekly cases in town can be found on the town website, at www.newcanaan.info.
