SPEF program vital

-

The recent vote by the Board of Education to stop the highly successful SPEF high school algebra tutoring program begs review. This course is a turning point for many students. Given the even further slip due to COVID distance (or no) learning in the subject, these kids are lost.

I have witnessed first-hand how important the SPEF team is in shoring up the sometimes limited resources Stamford Public Schools has, and they do an excellent job. The algebra tutoring program is a model that should be expanded on, to other schools and curricula, not silently killed in a way that deprives our students of needed aid.

We now can now see where this is headed, no more midterms or finals. I support SPEF and the SPS in reinforcing the tutoring needed to make all of our children successful. They are the future, we need to give them the tools they need to prosper in a world we can only imagine. Bruce D. Allen
